About Me

Hi everyone, my name is Thomas, feel free to call me Tom.

I’m 38 years old, currently living in Sydney, spent most of my time living in Brisbane, and Gold Coast.

I’ve always had a passion for games

I originally attended Qantm in Brisbane for 2 semesters back in 1999.

Then ended up working in sales.

I spent 5 years as a sales rep then was promoted into management.

Where I had the opportunity to help build AUSSIE FARMERS DIRECT over 10 million dollars in revenue within 8 months as the QLD channel manager.

From there I ran a large number of renewable energy campaigns, till eventually setting up my own company.

Which I’ve been running for a bit over 2 years.

My main focus now is my games development career, and I’m currently working for Mardonpol in the US working on a Playstation VR First Person Shooter called ALVO.

If anyone is interested to know more about me, feel free to contact me by email.

Specialty

I pride myself in my ability to work across multiple areas of the games development process. Originally I started out in Level Design, designing Rocket Jumping maps for Quake in Worldcraft. After the release of Half-Life 1, I began working with Character Design and Animation using Valves Hammer Editor and 3Dsmax. After shifting focus towards a career in Direct Sales, I came back to Games Development and learnt Unity and C# scripting, and now have begun adapting that knowledge to Unreal Engine and the Blueprints framework.

Interest

I've always been into Competitive Gaming, having my first taste of competition with Quake World Team Fortress, I later joined a Counter-Strike Clan and regularly competed in the Australian Game Arena League. However, due to a heavy work schedule, I could only find time to compete in SOLO competitions for Street Fighter 4. After starting my own Sales Company, I had found time to compete in the World Tournament League for Firewall Zero Hour, a first person VR FPS game. Which brought me back to Games Development, and is one of the key reasons for taking on the Bachelor Degree in Games Design.

Experience

As mentioned before, I spent a lot of time in my younger days working with Game Mods, and witnessed many of my friends getting offered work within the industry. I was lucky enough to work in the community for such mods as HL1: The Specialists, and HL1: Master Sword. During this time I also created a large array of Weapon Mods for other games such as Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear, and any other game that allowed user created content. After returning to games, I was offered an opportunity to re-create one of the failed level designs for ALVO VR, a recently released PSVR title that had been in the works for 3 years. While I'm no longer heavily involved with creating maps and assets for the game, I am still a valued community member for their Level Development team.

Objective

I am passionate about Games Development, I love having the ability to bring ideas to life. Having worked in studio projects with a diverse range of talent, I have found that seeing my team improve and deliver is the most satisfying experience, and being able to play the finished product knowing that I had a major hand in creating this game, and sharing an experience with the players in the way we designed, really can't be beat. I want to continue developing ideas, and shaping experiences for players using the latest technologies, in particular VR. After spending 20 years working for a living, I'm looking forward to enjoying myself for a living through Games Development.
